Lifebuoy co-founders of fight against germs!

Lifebuoy has championed a message of health through hygiene for more than a century. It has been the protector of generations of Pakistanis – men, women and children and has strived to build a happier, healthier Pakistan. Lifebuoy continues to protect our Gen-next, by making a real contribution to society and improving the lives of Pakistanis. This is why Lifebuoy, along with its partners, raises awareness of the importance of a simple hygiene habit on Global Handwashing Day.

For this simple yet critical fact Lifebuoy, has joined forces with USAID, PPAF (Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund) and other partner organizations like WFP, ITA, TCF, Care n Cure, LRBT & MALC to celebrate the Global Handwashing Day (GHD), on15th October 2008. Lifebuoy, and its GHD partners, will be encouraging school children to fight against germs through rallies, events and educational activities to raise the profile of a simple action – hand washing with soap – that has the power to stop people from falling ill; saving millions of lives.

A recent study in Pakistan found that hand washing with soap reduced the number of pneumonia-related infections in children under the age of five by more than 50 percent.

Lifebuoy believes that GHD will not only raise awareness of the need to wash hands with soap at key critical times in the day, such as after using the toilet and before handling food, but also change behaviour and save lives.

This is why on 15th October Lifebuoy aims to get a record number of school children washing their hands with soap.

Lifebuoy is aware that hands are the principal carriers of disease-causing germs like diarrhoeal, pneumonia, cholera and dysentery; and hand washing with soap could avert 1 million of those deaths. Lifebuoy aims to get as many as 500,000 children to wash their hands with soap and educate them about the importance of hand washing in a fun, interactive way.

Being the conscious and responsible members of the society Lifebuoy will continue the fight against germs and spread awareness about health and hygiene habits in the years to come.
