The Unilever Food and Health Research Institute and the Unilever Nutrition Network work closely together to provide evidence and support for the claimed benefits of a growing number of Unilever products. The Unilever Nutrition Network is organised in five regions (Europe, Africa, Australasia, North America and Latin America) and it is their role to maintain excellent relations with local experts and bodies and share with them our knowledge on scientific, nutritional and health issues relevant to our brands.
Promoting a healthy diet & lifestyle
Members of the Unilever Nutrition Network team up, where possible, with local authorities to promote a healthy diet and lifestyle and to explain the role of our products in the diet. This educating and claim-supporting role is fully in line with the Unilever Vitality Mission that is aimed at helping our consumers everywhere to achieve nutritional balance leading to a vital and healthy life.
Obtain local endorsement for the claim-supporting scientific dossiers
One role of the Unilever Nutrition Network is to obtain local endorsement for the claim-supporting scientific dossiers that are provided by the Unilever Food and Health Research Institute. They also need to check key messages of PR campaigns with regional and local experts and authorities in order to ensure that these are in line with scientific consensus and dietary guidelines.
Dealing with local questions from consumers
Our Nutrition Network is also responsible for dealing with local questions from consumers about the role of our products in a healthy diet. The Unilever Food and Health Research Institute ensures that, on a global scale, we are dealing with these ad hoc questions and issues in a coherent and effective way. We do this by offering our Nutrition Network training opportunities, scientific position statements on key issues, a global database for sharing learnings and a central helpdesk function for ad hoc questions.
Education our local marketing experts
Our Nutrition Network also plays a key role in educating our local marketing experts and product developers on all nutrition-related issues that are relevant for product development and marketing of products with claimed benefits.
