Career profile: Carol
Chemical Risk Assessor
Working within the Safety & Environmental Assurance Centre (SEAC) at Colworth, we’re responsible for the safety of all our products globally, that is both Foods and Home & Personal Care. Which means anything new and innovative, any concerns or queries about existing products, it all comes through us.
On some of the projects I lead, on others I’m a team member, so my role varies. Some projects I’m involved in right from the innovation stage, seeing a product all the way through from development to market, other projects I come in at various stages of the process.
Previously, our colleagues – environmental safety, toxicologists, chemists, microbiologists – were dispersed around the world. Now we’re all in the one place. So you get to see the bigger picture and have all this experience to draw upon. We consistently update and develop new methodologies for risk assessment. Our knowledge and expertise in SEAC is world class, which is why we’re highly-respected. In fact, many organisations look to us as a benchmark for safety and assessment.
This is a company that genuinely wants its people to develop and progress. If you have an interest in a particular field or aspect, you’ll be encouraged to pursue it. That could be through attending conferences, presenting your work or joining external bodies. It is truly progressive, in all senses of the word.
